Hope and Aasha

July 2025

Brief

Medium and Role

Project
A risograph poster developed through typographic experimentation, responding to under-recognised typographic precedents in Victoria. The brief asked for an experimental alphabet resolved through research into type history and personal positionality as a designer.

I chose the word Hope alongside its Hindi translation, Aasha, as a way of anchoring the work in my own experience of navigating between two languages, two cultures, and a particular moment of uncertainty. The pairing became both a typographic challenge and a personal one.

Risograph Print, Experimental Typography Solo project, RMIT 2024

The poster was developed through typographic experimentation, starting with sketches that deconstructed the forms of both words. Using repetition, layering, and risograph textures, I explored how hope could feel fragile yet resilient.

Printed in two contrasting colours, the risograph process added subtle misalignments and grain—echoing the imperfect, human quality of emotion and translation. The result is a tactile, living surface that blurs the boundary between languages while holding space for both.
