I translated ten-second fragments of the audio into a scroll, designed to be experienced slowly and physically rather than simply read. Using a receipt printer, I was drawn to its fragile, industrial quality—the way it unspools like memory, exposing sound as something mechanical yet intimate.
Each segment combines the transcript with interpretive sound descriptions, glitches, pauses, echoes, expressed through symbols, spacing, and texture. The typography becomes a visual and auditory map of the piece, translating not just what was said, but how it feels to listen.
To deepen the physical experience, I included sand with the scroll. It adds drag, weight, and tactility, transforming the act of reading into excavation. The scroll feels unearthed, echoing HOLECODED’s themes of mining, data, and buried histories
"Amazing work Khushi. Your publication is highly successful. The receipt printer is an effective medium for translating sound through text, and the pacing invites a thoughtful reading experience. Keep experimenting with these playful, tactile methods. They're leading to a distinctive and exciting practice." — Studio Lead, RMIT
